Right now, Jacobs is in planning phases on how to be a major contributor to the huge requirements regarding the change to the energy mix on Continental Europe. We believe that this sector will become Jacobs’ dominant sector in our European operations over the next 5-10 years. Cable Engineers are key component of a growth strategy to position Jacobs to meet the requirements of Energy Transition activities within the UK and Europe. As part of our team, you’ll be providing a range of services throughout the design process on all elements of HV cable systems (mostly from 132kV up to 500kV). This includes feasibility design through to the preparation of technical specifications, production of detailed construction drawings and design compliance checks for our major energy clients. Cable Engineer roles and responsibilities typically include: • Contributing to engineering activities for HV Cable/Substation projects cable ratings calculations, CAD cable route and plant drawings)• The day-to-day collaboration with allocated design teams including Protection & Control, Civil Engineers and CAD Technicians• Performing site related activities surveys, quality assurance)• Processing of inputs being provided by other departments and external groups, such as survey/geotechnical, transport and environmental• Contributing to the delivery of consultancy projects, delivering on time and to budget• Ensuring the design meets all the client’s scoping requirements and compliance with their technical specifications• Conducting engineering reviews, quality assurance checks and approval of design drawings, reports, construction programmes and other deliverables• Attending Design Reviews, Hazard Reviews, and other related meetings• Interfacing with the client during the various design phases. As a Cable Engineer, we’re looking for your background experience in the following:• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering• Membership of a recognized professional institution /organization• Working knowledge of Cymcap software• A strong technical bias, a keen interest in technology and mathematical modelling and a methodical approach to problem solving• Flexibility to work on a number of different projects concurrently• Strong communication skills to articulate a clear technical direction with good social, networking and presentation skills• Power systems or utility experience• Previous experience working on UK Distribution Network Operator (DNO) projects is preferred but not essential
