Now, in 2020, our fast growing organisation gathers more than 900 high-performing engineers that work together in global tribes.The MissionYou will be working in one of the most challenging projects of ING Group, the rewrite of Global Financial Messaging Engine, a critical part of the group’s financial infrastructure. Use the latest technology stack and design principles to directly impact 45 ING entities and more than 300 back-offices.As a Backend Developer, you will:Create applications, components and middleware by working closely with the other team members using the newest JVM/Scala/Akka technologies. Embrace emerging standards while promoting best practices;Take an active part in design and technical decisions on both new and existing components and processes;Be able to mix “big picture” reasoning with component level delivery;Initiate, iterate and continuously improve on technology, developing the product as well as the way of working;Take ownership by coding components and applications, as well as unit and integration tests;Follow coding and security standards, builds appropriate deployment scripts;Stay on top of new trends in software development technologies, with a focus on the Scala and distributed and concurrent computing with Akka, understand ING Touchpoint platform, components and standards;Accumulate business domain knowledge and be apple to apply the knowledge to everyday software developments, application architecture, workflow design and data flows, while understanding the current solution;What you bring to the team:Proficiency in Scala, JVM; Good knowledge and understanding of the Actor system and/or Akka, ElasticSearch, Apache Kafka and Kafka Streams;Expertise in using relational and non-relational databases, familiarity with Oracle ecosystem is a plus; Unit testing fan, Test Driven Development mindset and a competent developer at performance testing;High curiosity for the business domain;Good understanding of Agile methodologies;Functional programming proponent and practitioner;Optimization techniques and strategies;Experience with CI pipelines (Jenkins, AzureDevOps) and best practices;A good understanding of virtualization technologies: docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift;What’s in it for you:Flexible working schedule, which usually includes two days of WFH, but we can adapt to any situation, we work fully remote for the moment;Extra vacation days, depending on your entire working experience;We encourage personal and professional development, so we invest in your learning by putting at your disposal a budget for trainings, workshops and certifications;Because everybody is working from home and we really understand that is not always easy, we have built an online well-being programme that can help you manage this stressful period;We also have a cool community and your colleagues will help you to integrate fast, our long standing Front-end Guild is eager to meet you!;We support each other, and we share our work and passions on an online Tech Neighbourhood; A relaxing environment will be awaiting for you back at the office, with a flexible desk policy that allows you to work from an office desk, but also from a couch or from the terrace;And when you will need a break, you can have a tea from Teapigs and/or a coffee from Nespresso which you can enjoy while reading a book from Bookster;Even though we work fully remote this does not mean that you can`t enjoy your own monitor and chair from the office at home while our live DJ sets plays you chillaxing music.
