The focus of ING Tech Romania (established in 2015 as a global hub for technology) has been on building strategic key capabilities, such as developing and continuously improving common IT solutions that can be shared, replicated and reused across the other ING countries.
Currently, ING Tech Romania provides approximately 100 services to more than 18 countries and units. These services are grouped in the following main categories: software development; data management; non-financial risk & compliance; audit.
Now, in 2021, our fast growing organisation gathers more than 900 high-performing engineers that work together in global tribes.
The mission
As part of the development towards a “Next Generation Digital Banking Platform”, ING is renewing the data management capabilities globally. The Tribe Data Management realises, as part of the “Unite programme”, an integrated data management platform for the Dutch and Belgian organisations: the “Unite data lake”. This is an ambitious implementation based on state of the art technology.
Since September 2019 until June 2020 we have hired 11 new colleagues in our squads, building up new teams and extending our portfolio. Our work is valued and appreciated by our stakeholders and this give us the chance to expand our capabilities, therefore we are still recruiting 10 more people.
Your activities start at analysis and end at operations. As such you are a true DevOps engineer, with full ownership of the solution you build (you build it, you run it).
Your day to day
- As a DevOps engineer (engineering mentality) you will be working in a scrum content squad of 6-8 people consisting of three or four other DevOps engineers and two or three Business Analysts. In addition, there will be a Product Owner who decides on the priority of the user stories. Each data content squad is responsible for their own set of sources from the extraction of the data, either in real-time or through batches, to the delivery of Data Marts for Cognos Reporting.
- You will be responsible for the analysis of the data and the build of the physical model at the various stages of the data pipeline: Operational Status, Information Warehouse and Data Marts. The physical modelling method used in our environment is what we call: ‘Key-Version’ modelling. It’s a mix between relational modelling and Data Vault. You will also model our Data Marts, using the Kimball Dimensional Model method. Having hands-on experience in using Type 3 (slowly changing) dimensions is a minimum requirement.
- Additional tasks working in the squad will consist of designing, developing, testing and deploying IBM Information Server artefacts, mainly involving DataStage, as well as developing new frameworks and packages using Cognos Analytics.
- Maintaining the applications running in our Data Lake is the operations part of your job. You and your fellow engineers are not only responsible for what you build but also for maintenance and monitoring, including incident management and bug fixing. You will also be responsible for keeping the operational controls, which are a key part of the risk appetite of the bank, up to date.
- The role requires occasional travel to Belgium or Netherlands
We are looking for someone with:
- Experience with ETL processes and tools (experience with IBM InfoSphere DataStage is nice to have)
- Good understanding of Data Warehouse concepts
- Experience with data integration
- Experience with database design, modelling and data analysis on large amounts of data
- Excellent knowledge of SQL
- Good knowledge of database concepts, experience with IBM Netezza is considered a plus
- Experience with Linux operating system or other Unix systems
- Experience with Business Intelligence tools
- Experience as developer of multi-tier applications
- Wiliness to learn and experiment with new technologies
- Ability to translate functional and non-functional requirements (e.g. Security, High Availability)
- Understanding of Agile - Scrum methodology is considered a plus
- Experience in banking industry is considered a plus
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to be able to align with various stakeholders
- Proficient in English (verbal and writing)
- Enthusiastic personality, bringing pleasure and connection with Agile methodology in multidisciplinary teams.
