Job Summary
The Engineer must understand overhead transmission line design and be able to complete all technical requirements of assigned projects from basic to moderate complexity. He may work independently on small tasks and may also assist other engineers on larger, more complex projects.
Main Activities:
Developing existing line 3D models using LiDAR data in PLS-CADD software
Concept and Detailed Design of Transmission Lines and structures
Modelling and analysis of structures using PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE
Perform, lead, and oversee all engineering responsibilities related to overhead transmission line design
This includes, line routing, structure analysis and loading trees, developing design criteria, sag-tension calculations, wire blowout, swing angle, damper recommendations, structure spotting, clearance reports, wire selection, etc.
Prepare specifications for construction, hardware, and material for high voltage overhead transmission line (HV OH T-Line); structure design and development; hardware design and selection; and field installation supervision
Prepare construction drawings and cost estimates for high voltage overhead transmission lines
Foundation designs – varying from normal concrete foundations to pile foundations
Preparing design criteria document and reports
Assisting with the preparation of proposals
Minimum Requirements
Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.
Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.
Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
Prepares technical specification sections.
Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Solid transmission lines industry experience
Experience in 69kV to 500kV line design and working knowledge and/or expertise in Power Line system based programs (i.e., PLS, PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER etc.) preferred.
Site experience/experience in projects being constructed
Knowledge of overhead line design standards
Previous engineering design or drafting work experience, especially if related to civil and/or structural engineering, is desirable
