Staff Engineer - Tradeshift Buy in Bucuresti

Job Description

Tradeshift is looking for a Staff Engineer to join the Tradeshift Buy organization in Global Product and Engineering. This means being a technical leader with architectural ownership, while also getting your hands plenty dirty in code contributions for the strong team you will be part of, as well as for company wide projects. You will act as a mentor, inspiring your colleagues and setting technical direction. In this role, you will also act as an evangelist within Engineering and represent Tradeshift in conferences, the blogosphere and relevant open source communities.

In Tradeshift Buy, we are implementing, growing and maintaining apps and services that bring to our customers a modern, managed buying experience.

You will be a member of a skilled, cross-functional and self-driven team, that includes FrontEnd Engineers, BackEnd Engineers, QA, Product Manager and Designer.

We value individuals who are passionate, who care, and who can set a direction for their peers.

Role

  • Take ownership of at least one architectural domain, driving the overall technical roadmap and vision for the services in the area, advising and discussing with teams (including your own) that are building services which reside or intersect with the domain to ensure coherence and direction

  • Share your knowledge and expertise widely in Tradeshift, inspiring and mentoring colleagues in engineering

  • Translate high-level plans for business growth into technical roadmaps that take long-term engineering strategy into account

  • Present technical architecture practices and hold frequent training sessions across engineering

  • Represent Tradeshift in the P2P/fintech/Engineering industry by giving talks at conferences, share findings in blog posts, and be part of relevant open source communities

  • Work with product managers and designers in a global environment to define and ship new product experiences, migrate existing legacy code to microservices, create new services and modules within the platform and work on feature requests and improvements.

  • Write high-quality, tested and peer-reviewed code covered by unit, component and integration tests

  • Work with technologies like Java, Spring, Postgresql, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Elasticsearch, React/Redux, Javascript, CSS/Less, but also be exposed to DevOps technologies like Kubernetes, Docker and supporting tools like Datadog, Sentry or Splunk

Qualifications

You’re perfect for this role if:

  • You have a BS/MS in Computer Science degree or equivalent. At least 10 years of proven software engineering experience, preferably in relevant industries

  • You are well versed in all aspects of software development: Inception, architecture, design, specification, development, testing, building/deploying, running, refactoring, decommissioning, etc.

  • You have experience with distributed, cloud native, microservice based, major scale, transactional systems. Or you have the ability to apply other veins of experience and theoretical knowledge to this domain in a convincing manner

  • You have deep knowledge of Java. Experience with multiple programming languages, paradigms, environments and frameworks expected. The ability to reflect on the advantages and shortcomings in applying them to different problems and situations. Knowledge of NodeJS/Typescript is a plus.

  • You thrive with hard challenges and with diving into unknown territory. Enjoy pragmatic problem solving in a collaborative environment, where the result is the focus, not the individual contributions or egos

  • You are strong in communication both with peers, less experienced engineers, and people from other areas of the business. Not afraid to share knowledge, take the lead and show direction

  • You are experienced and opinionated on different software development methodologies, including Scrum. Reflect on when to use what techniques, and apply them in a pragmatic manner

  • You are fluent in English, written and spoken
