Detailed Description

We seek a curious and energetic technical documentation manager to lead our Safety User Assistance team. As the leader of this team, you will help plan and prioritize deliverables across several products, while coaching and mentoring a small team of writers. We will provide you with an opportunity to grow your management skills, develop your career, and learn new skills specific to customer insights and optimizing digital experiences.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prioritize content releases, while identifying risks and mitigations. Provide technical writing and editing support as needed. Review content for quality.
  • Collaborate with other team leads to define best practices and standards. Drive continuous improvement processes for content quality and writer productivity.
  • Mentor and coach writers, who are new to structured authoring and XML.
  • Collaborate with our Information Architect to research new and innovative ways of delivering content to customers.
  • Serve as the primary user assistance liaison for Safety product development teams. Advocate on behalf of customers, while representing the team in leadership and cross-functional meetings.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • 5+ years as a software technical writer, preferably supporting mixed audiences (from end-users to system configurators).
  • 1+ year managing teams, with a hunger to grow and learn more.
  • Strong customer advocate mentality.
  • Strong team player with outstanding communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. We believe the HOW is as important as the WHAT.
  • Experience writing with XML and using structured writing. Experience working with Oxygen XML Author, SDL, and/or FrameMaker is a plus.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly. A history of fearless hands-on investigation and product use.
  • Comfort with agile, swiftly changing, dynamic software development situations.
  • Ability to establish and follow style and usage guidelines.
  • Degree in English, Journalism, or a related field, with proven, advanced skills in English grammar, technical editing and user-focused technical writing.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

 

 

Responsible for directing the activities of a staff that creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Supervises the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets.

As a manager in the technical writing division, you will lead a team that will design and write conceptually complex parts of new documentation. Recognize design dependencies with related product documentation and/or products and propose design changes or new designs. Provide subject matter guidance Company-wide to all levels.

Leads a specialized area which may have diverse functional elements. Frequently interacts with supervisors and/or functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of technical documentation. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. A of one year of software engineering or related experience.
