We are looking for a Data Scientist(L2) to help us build high quality data products and produce accurate recommendations impacting our millions of members worldwide. Working with various stakeholders around the business, you will enhance our user engagement and improve key business KPIs, such as margin and conversion. Our Data Science Team is growing fast and the breadth of projects we are working on are growing even faster. We are looking for an experienced data scientist to work with the Data Platform Manager to navigate the business’s technical priorities in order to translate these priorities into clearly defined tasks and support the end-to-end delivery of the work accurately within predefined deadlines. The Role & what you’ll do As a data scientist, you'll be responsible for identifying opportunities to build and improve machine learning models. The domains you will work on will include image and text processing, recommendations engines, forecasting models and anomaly detection. Your success will be measured by Improving existing models Building new machine learning models end to end with the team’s support Writing production quality, modular and maintainable code Initiating ideas and hypotheses around machine learning products to support business goals Ability to explain and interpret machine learning model to the team Provide clear and concise responses to spontaneous business analytics inquiries. This role currently sits in the Data Science function within the Tech department. Day to day, you will be working on… Machine learning and deep learning - data query, modelling, evaluation and monitoring Building and maintaining products at scale Ad hoc business analytics tasks Statistical techniques to create insights and discover new business opportunities. Initiating ideas and helping to identify growth opportunities. Liaising with key stakeholders in the Engineering, Data, Marketing and Product teams. Keeping yourself updated on new developments in your field of expertise. The Team The data science team at Secret Escapes is made up of a Head of Department, Product Manager, Data Scientists and ML ops engineers. We aim to grow the team over time to explore and exploit more opportunities to create value for the business. The mission of the data science team at Secret Escapes is to improve the customer experience across our multiple platforms by personalising their journey with relevant and inspiring recommendations. We work closely with the data platform team who provide us the data needed to implement and deploy our models and thus provide the business with valuable data products. The kind of questions we ask are: how could we improve a recommendation model to better account for new deals that have not yet received much traffic? How could we better take into account short and long term user preferences? How do we balance the exploit vs explore tradeoff? We have a 40 hour working week but we enjoy the flexibility of working core hours (10-4pm) either fully remote or in a hybrid home / office pattern, but we take every opportunity we can to get together and collaborate! Must haves Work experience in a similar role which involves data science , machine learning Fluency in SQL and Python. Basic understanding and experience with code versioning tools (git, Github). Proven experience in machine learning and/or deep learning projects Knowledge of statistical analysis, in particular A/B testing Knowledge/Willingness to learn basic linux commands, Dockerfile, AWS services Good to have While not mandatory, it would be great if you have knowledge/experience in some or any of the following :- Spark (Snowpark) LLM POCs (large language model proof of concepts) CI CD using GitHub actions Orchestration tools (Airflow knowledge) AWS managed services Best practices for deploying online ML / Deep Learning APIs Pytorch / Tensorflow / HuggingFace And you are… Pro-active with a self-starter mindset - you like to get stuff done, not just talk about getting stuff done.
