Role Overview
We are looking for a Mid-Level Backup Engineer to join a corporate IT Data-Protection Services team within a large banking environment. The role focuses on Level 2 support for the implementation, monitoring, administration, and maintenance of enterprise backup infrastructure serving multiple internal clients across Europe.
The position operates in an ITIL-aligned environment and is responsible for ensuring service stability, incident resolution, SLA compliance, capacity monitoring, and continuous improvement of backup services.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, tune, and monitor enterprise backup solutions such as Cohesity, Veritas NetBackup, IBM Spectrum Protect / TSM, Dell DataDomain, Quantum DXI, and CommVault.
- Manage backup alarms, verify job health, and perform regular infrastructure health checks.
- Execute file-level, image-level, and application-aware restores.
- Own Level 2 incidents, including triage, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, resolution, and escalation to Level 3 or vendors when needed.
- Identify recurring issues, support problem investigations, and contribute to the Known-Error database.
- Support backup-related change activities, including patching, configuration updates, capacity extensions, and deployment coordination.
- Monitor storage utilization and forecast growth across DataDomain, Quantum DXI tape libraries, disk-based deduplication platforms, and cloud backup targets.
- Develop and maintain scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or Python for job creation, health checks, reporting, and API-driven orchestration.
- Maintain configuration baselines, run-books, SOPs, technical documentation, and SLA-compliance dashboards.
- Produce periodic service-quality reports for management and audit purposes.
- Act as technical liaison for internal service owners and business units.
- Communicate clearly on incidents, changes, service status, and backup best practices.
- Mentor junior engineers, contribute to the team knowledge base, and participate in the rotating on-call schedule.
- Follow technology evolution in backup, virtualization, storage, networking, and propose process or technology improvements.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in backup infrastructure administration or data-protection services.
- Practical experience with at least three of the following: Cohesity Data Protection, Veritas NetBackup, IBM Spectrum Protect / TSM, Dell DataDomain, Quantum DXI, CommVault.
- Good knowledge of disk-based deduplication, tape libraries, and cloud backup targets.
- Experience administering backup agents and restores across Linux / RHEL, Windows Server 2012–2022, and Unix / AIX environments.
- Practical experience with VMware vSphere, including VM backup, snapshots, and restore processes.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, DNS, and firewall rules affecting backup traffic and remote replication.
- Scripting experience with PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or Python.
- Experience with monitoring and reporting tools such as Power BI, Grafana, or similar dashboarding solutions.
- Proven experience applying ITIL processes, including Incident, Problem, Change, and Service-Level Management.

Working Model
- Hybrid working model: on-site in Bucharest and remote work according to company policy.
- Standard office hours, with rotating on-call duty for business-critical windows, including evenings and weekends when required.
