Are you the kind of person who sees a messy dataset and immediately starts thinking about the story it could tell? My client is looking for a skilled and passionate Data Specialist to join their team, someone who thrives at the intersection of data, technology, and business impact.
In this role, you'll be the go-to expert for transforming raw data into clear, actionable insights through powerful Power BI solutions. You'll work closely with business stakeholders, drive architectural decisions, and make sure data flows seamlessly from source to dashboard.
What You'll Be Doing
- Develop, maintain, and optimise interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that drive real business decisions.
- Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into elegant technical solutions.
- Design and maintain data models, schemas, and warehouse architectures that underpin BI excellence.
- Write and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and backend scripts to support robust reporting.
- Support ETL processes, ensuring seamless data integration, transformation, and quality.
- Integrate Power BI with a range of systems and data sources, including APIs and cloud platforms.
- Continuously tune report and dashboard performance — from query optimisation to data refresh strategies.
- Document data flows, architecture diagrams, and report designs to keep the team aligned and audit-ready.
- Work hands-on with relational databases, data lakes, and warehouses for accurate, reliable reporting.
- Champion data architecture best practices: dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, fact/dimension tables.
- Implement data governance, security, and compliance measures to protect and maintain data integrity.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of experience in a similar BI or data role.
- Proven track record as a Power BI Developer or equivalent.
- Strong grasp of data visualisation best practices and Power BI performance optimisation.
- Solid experience with data architecture design, including dimensional modeling and schema patterns.
- Familiarity with ETL processes, data warehousing, and API integrations.
- Hands-on experience with transformation tools such as Power Query, SSIS, or Azure Data Factory.
- Experience with Azure cloud platforms for BI and data architecture.
- Knowledge of Python, R, or other scripting languages for analytics and automation.
- An analytical mindset with genuine problem-solving drive.
- Excellent communication skills — able to engage confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong command of English, written and spoken.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and committed to data accuracy.
Nice to Have
- Deep knowledge of backend systems and database architecture (relational and cloud-based).
- Proficiency in SQL, DAX, and data modeling concepts.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks and quality monitoring.
- End-to-end understanding of data flows — from source systems through to BI consumption.
- Ability to design scalable, maintainable, high-performance BI solutions.
- A genuine passion for learning and staying ahead of BI trends and technologies.
