The Need 

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the workto protectvulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% forvery largepopulations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking Government Relations & Advocacy Interns & Fellows.

The Government Relations and Advocacy Interns and Fellows will have the opportunity to build relationships with policy makers on behalf of IJM field offices, building political will and foreign aid to confront violence against the global poor and mobilizing and growing IJM’s constituency to advocate for policies on IJM’s behalf.Depending on your level of experience, your role may involve some of the following responsibilities as well as other relevant duties assigned by the Field Office Director or Supervisor.

  • Draft training content and logistical support for NGOTrainings;

  • Assistin evaluation and upgrading of NGO Trainingcontent;

  • Develop content for Community Relations programs andcampaigns;

  • Maintain the Community Relations documentation and track monthlytargets;

  • Help in the planning and implementation of Advocacy teamevents;

  • Provide Administrative support to the community relations team’s activities; and

  • Represent IJM at NGO Network and Government Network meetings if necessary.

  • Positions may be available in: Accra, Ghana; Bucharest, Romania; Lima, Peru; Guatemala City, Guatemala; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Jakarta, Indonesia; Bangkok, Thailand; Manila, PhilippinesNot every position will be available in every office. 

    Program duration is 12 months, fromJanuary2027 – December 2027.

    Internship General Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Bachelor'sdegree;

  • Organizational and administrativeskills;

  • Attention todetail;

  • Knowledge of Microsoft software and Windows strongly preferred; and

  • Fluency in Spanishrequiredfor Latin America offices.

  • Fellowship General Qualifications and Required Skills

  • 3+years prior work experienceand/orMaster'sdegree;background in Government or Community Relations preferred;

  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, andWindows XP;

  • Experience networking with International and National NGO's, CBO's, faith-based communities, and local government; and

  • Fluency in Spanishrequiredfor Latin America offices.

  • As volunteers, interns and fellows receive a monthly stipend to help defray their expenses related toparticipatingin the internship program. This volunteer stipend is not an hourly wage, nor wages paid for services provided by the intern or fellow.
