Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Cardiac Anesthesia & ICU to lead the clinical operations, medical governance, and strategic development of the Cardiac Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit within our Cardiovascular Hospital. The successful candidate will oversee the delivery of high-quality perioperative cardiac anesthesia services, critical care management, and post-operative recovery for complex cardiac patients. The role requires strong clinical leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, and commitment to excellence in cardiovascular patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for the Cardiac Anesthesia and ICU departments.
- Oversee anesthesia services for complex cardiac surgeries including CABG, valve replacement, congenital heart procedures, and major cardiovascular interventions.
- Lead the management of critically ill cardiac patients requiring intensive monitoring and advanced life support.
- Develop and implement clinical protocols, pathways, and evidence-based practices for cardiac anesthesia and ICU care.
- Ensure delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered care in compliance with international healthcare standards.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop consultants, specialists, anesthetists, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Coordinate closely with cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, perfusionists, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Monitor clinical outcomes, quality indicators, patient safety initiatives, and departmental performance.
- Ensure effective utilization of ICU resources, equipment, and technology.
- Participate in hospital committees, clinical governance activities, audits, and accreditation processes.
- Promote research, education, and continuous professional development within the department.

Requirements
Education
- Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent medical qualification.
- Fellowship or specialist qualification in Cardiac Anesthesia, Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, or Critical Care Medicine.
- Valid medical license and specialist registration.
Experience
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in cardiac anesthesia and intensive care.
- Significant experience managing complex cardiac surgical patients.
- Previous leadership experience as Head of Department, Clinical Lead, or equivalent role.
- Experience in tertiary cardiovascular hospitals is highly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced knowledge of cardiac anesthesia techniques, hemodynamic monitoring, and perioperative critical care.
- Expertise in managing patients undergoing open-heart surgery and complex cardiac procedures.
- Strong understanding of ICU protocols, ventilation strategies, ECMO, and advanced life support.
- Excellent leadership, decision-making, and clinical governance skills.
- Strong ability to develop multidisciplinary teams and improve clinical outcomes.
- Knowledge of healthcare accreditation standards and quality improvement methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia or Cardiac Critical Care.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience with ECMO programs, transplant services, or advanced cardiac ICU management.
- Publications, research involvement, or academic teaching experience.
