On behalf of our client we are recruiting for an Expert I&C Turbine Control and Digital Control Engineer. This role is accountable for the following:
· Providing technical expertise in I&C and control systems design for power plant thermal cycle (including turbine and generator control) in a nuclear power plant environment, to review design specifications, system and software specifications, digital equipment technical specifications, testing procedures and reports, and related field-initiated change submitted by the EPC contractors for acceptance by Refurbishment Engineering.
· Ensuring that all engineering work complies with the regulatory and jurisdictional requirements, codes and standards, safety, design requirements and specifications and any other applicable requirements.
· Conducting field inspections to verify that the system field configuration accurately represents the updated design documents configuration.
· Raising quality observation requests when there is discrepancy between the field configuration and the one in the design documents.
· Proposing engineering tools, software for staff to efficiently perform their duties.
· Preparing lessons learned and feedback processes to continuously improve the work process and retain knowledge.
· Raising corrective action process for any deviation from approved design or any non-conformance.
· Participating in analyses and discussions with contractors and customers, regarding matters like digital systems design and installation, modifications etc.
· Carrying out, reviewing or assisting in analyses of digital control for thermal cycle systems in a nuclear power plant environment.
· Preparing data for recommendations to achieve work objectives; ability to work with others, including customers, construction workers and contractors, in the resolution of problems.
· Participating in engineering team meetings, interface meetings with CNE and/or EPC contractors.
· Carrying out or assisting with special studies or analyses for the definition and solution of problems, or for economic or efficiency improvement considerations.
· Participating in the preparation of specifications, procedures, estimates for small or large engineering changes.
· Maintaining an awareness of state-of-the-art of the engineering profession and new advances in engineering design, methods, materials, etc.
· Leading the team in the preparation of “as-built” or “as-commissioned” drawings based on EPC Contractor’s input documents.
· Providing input to work schedules.
· Authoring official documents including letters, reports, specifications, and requirements.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, safety analysts, and regulatory bodies, to ensure the integrity and reliability of safety systems.
· Stay updated with the latest advancements in digital safety technologies and regulatory requirements.
· Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
· A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO) or eligible for PEO status (or equivalent) with a passion for control engineering.
· Comprehensive understanding of power plant thermal cycle control technology and operations, with expertise in design engineering.
· Minimum of 10 years of experience in the design and implementation of digital control systems design for power plant thermal cycle (including turbine and generator control) in a nuclear power plant environment, with a minimum of 5 years of experience working on CANDU Nuclear Power Plant projects.
· In-depth knowledge of relevant CSA and IEC or IEEE standards, including CSA N290.7 and N290.14 series, IEC 61508, 61513, 61511, 61882, EN 61000, IEEE 1012, etc.
· Direct involvement in a CANDU Refurbishment Project/Organization will be an advantage.
· Excellent problem-solving skills and experience in leading technical projects to successful completion.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality.
· Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team situation.
· Strong attention to detail and to quality assurance requirements.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
· Experience with quality management systems (e.g., CSA N286, CSA N299, CNCAN NMC, ISO 9001).
· Experience with advanced digital safety technologies and methodologies.
· Experience with General Electric (Mark VI) or Alstom (Alspa) platforms and respective engineering processes is highly desirable.
· Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality products under tight timelines and high pressure to support unit restart schedules.
· Experience in project management is an asset.
· Romanian Language proficiency would be beneficial but is not a requirement.
